Joyce Joines Newman, the daughter of Frail and Blanche Joines, is a professional folklorist and artist. She has created a supplemental "Being a Joines" site with additional stories and background materials. The website fleshes out the film with information on the family and community, photographs, a related military history, and links to additional folklore and historical documents from Wilkes County, maps, a Western North Carolina Heritage Bibliography, and a page of Appalachian Studies resources.
