Kier Cline |
Kier M. Cline (January 24, 1939–May 30, 2019) was an American filmmaker, producer, cinematographer, and editor. A Kansas native, he studied fine arts at the University of Wichita and later film production at Columbia College Chicago.
In 1978, Cline traveled alone to North Carolina with a 16mm camera and portable sound recorder to document the National Hollerin’ Contest. The resulting film, Welcome to Spivey’s Corner, was his first independently produced documentary. Cline later made Kathy, a documentary about a young woman living with osteogenesis imperfecta. Broadcast nationally on PBS, it received a Daytime Emmy Award in 1982. He followed it with Kathy: On My Own in 1985.
Cline and his wife operated Butler Productions in Chicago, producing documentaries, educational films, corporate productions, and television commercials. He retired from filmmaking in 1996 and moved to the mountains of Colorado
