Filmmakers

Nancy da Silveira is a filmmaker and educator whose work explores cultural identity and immigrant traditions. She produced, directed, and edited Flight of the Dove (1989), a documentary about the Portuguese-American dairy-farming community of California’s Chino Valley and its annual Feast of the Holy Spirit. The film, supported by the California Council for the Humanities, California Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Center for Visual Anthropology at the University of Southern California, was among the early documentaries to focus on Portuguese-American cultural life. Da Silveira has also taught Portuguese at Pitzer College in Claremont, California.
