Martha King |
Martha Elizabeth King is an anthropologist, folklorist, and filmmaker at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is a Teaching Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of Undergraduate Studies. She received an M.A. in folklore/American studies and a Ph.D. in anthropology from UNC. Her research has ranged from traditional ballad singing and collaborative ethnographic filmmaking in western North Carolina to medical anthropology, with particular attention to health and healing among Amish communities. With Rob Roberts, King made the award-winning documentary Madison County Project: Documenting the Sound (2005), about the tradition of unaccompanied ballad singing in Madison County, North Carolina, and the filmmakers and folklorists who have documented it.
