Sidney Platt |
Sidney Platt (d. 2010–2011) was a longtime director and senior figure in the National Geographic Society’s Educational Films Division, where he worked for more than twenty years on educational films and specials. He joined National Geographic in 1963 as a film editor and went on to serve as production coordinator, sound recordist, and associate producer on major projects including Dr. Leakey and the Dawn of Man, Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees, The World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and China: An Emerging Giant.
Platt later became supervisor and manager of the Educational Film Department and created National Geographic’s Stock Shot Film Library, preserving unused footage for future productions. Over his career, he received numerous honors, including CINE Golden Eagle Awards and recognition from major film festivals.
