Native of Lincoln County, NC. Bachelors degree in communications, minor in art,
Winthrop College, plus education courses for teacher's certificate. Taught high
school journalism, filmmaking evening division, Winthrop College. Reporter-
photographer for South Carolina newspapers. Received numerous writing awards and
an Associated Press first place award; writer-photographer for School District of Greenville
County; TV news photographer, editor. A series "Tueday's Child", featuring foster care
children available for adoption, received a national award along with Captain Kangaroo.
As an independent filmmaker she completed two award winning documentaries
in 16mm: The People Who Take Up Serpents and Everything Change Up Now, A
View of the South Carolina Sea Islands. The awards were given by the Columbus
International Film Festival.
A third documentary, Suffer the Children, an Essay on Abuse, produced on video
was awarded the Red Ribbon by the American Film Festival. A fourth video:
Appalachian Women: A Patchwork Quilt, a history of women's activities in
western North and South Carolina, was produced on video in conjunction with
TV13, Asheville, NC.That film aired on the ABC stations in the state and was placed
in public school libraries.
The filmmaker then began her own company, American Image Makers, Inc., in
Greenville, SC , where she creating marketing, sales, training, and educational videos
for business and industry as well as tv commercials.
