Gregory Hansen

Gregory Hansen is a folklorist, documentary producer, and professor of folklore and English at Arkansas State University, where he also teaches in the Heritage Studies doctoral program. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in folk studies from Western Kentucky University, and a doctorate in folklore from Indiana University. Hansen previously worked with the Florida Folklife Program and as a fieldworker and consultant for the Smithsonian Institution, during which he produced the Profiles videos for the educational resource Iowa Folklife: "Our People, Communities, and Traditions.”  His publications include A Florida Fiddler: The Life and Times of Richard Seaman, and his work focuses on public folklore, traditional music, occupational culture, and cultural heritage. He produced Winter Harvest, streaming on Folkstreams, which documents the workers and traditional practices of the Bear Creek Ice Company in northeastern Pennsylvania.
