Bill Shewbridge

Bill Shewbridge is a documentary filmmaker whose work explores the lives and traditions of artists, musicians, and communities. As founding Director of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County's New Media Studio, he spent more than two decades using media and storytelling to amplify community voices, foster dialogue across cultural divides, and preserve local history. He is also a former Professor of the Practice in UMBC's Media and Communication Studies program, where he taught documentary production, digital storytelling, and intercultural media. In collaboration with Maryland Traditions, the folklife program of the Maryland State Arts Council, his recent films document the artists and cultural traditions that sustain Maryland's rich folklife and the broader heritage of the Mid-Atlantic region.
